Bass Valley Historical Society Dinner and Quarterly Meeting. Guest speaker is Jane Hendtlass and her topic is ‘Dead Man’s penny’ A bronze Memorial Plague was given to the families of dead soldiers in the First World War – the full name of the dead soldier is engraved on the right hand side of the plaque. The shape and appearance of the plaque earned it nicknames such as the ‘Dead Man’s penny’ the ‘Death penny, and the ‘Widow’s penny’.
When: Friday. March 2 2018 at 6.30pm for 7.00pm. Where: Corinella Hall, Smythe Street. Cost: $25.00 per head – BYO drinks and glasses.
