Presentation 1. Presenter Mike Hendry from Pianos Recycled will explore examples of recycling pianos into crafted furniture, fashion jewellery and bespoke household items.
In Melbourne alone, in one year it is estimated that approximately 600 – 700 pianos are discarded. Nationally these figures mean that approximately 2500 pianos are discarded and that every seven years Australia fills a space the size of the MCG with pianos that end up in landfill.
Pianos Recycled is a new Australian Company with a totally new and unique concept. Saving old pianos destined for the rubbish tip, making use of their valued materials of timber, veneers, craftsmanship and materials of a previous century and recycling them in entirety into items of beauty and value for the new age. Examples will be on display and Mike will happy to respond to any questions.
Presentation 2. Presenter Louise Donaghey, City of Greater Dandenong Waste Education officer. Louise will introduce you to the basics of worm farming and composting and will provide you with information that will help you set up your own system at home.
Recycling your food waste at home is an easy way to keep organic waste out of landfills. This is a great opportunity to discuss any food waste recycling questions.
