NWDFHG – Quilts of Valour – Helen Comport

April 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The Narre Warren & District Family History Group invite you to their April meeting where the guest speaker is Helen Comport – Quilts of Valour. Following the tragic loss and injury of defence personnel in Afghanistan in 2010 a resident in Victoria learnt of the need to reach out to wounded Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and honour their sacrifice for serving Australia on a combat deployment. Victorian resident Helen Comport discovered how touched an injured soldier was by the warmth of the quilt he was awarded by American Quilters. She was inspired to establish an Australian organisation. Through consultation and support from the Victorian Quilters Guild and the Berwick RSL sub-branch, the first meeting took place in February 2012. From there it grew to be in every state and territory of Australia. The quilts are such a powerful symbol in a traumatic time.

When:  Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 7.30pm. Where: NWDFHG Rooms, 110 High Street, Berwick.
Entry fee: $5.00. QOV Australia Inc is a charity which gives fantastic support to ADF personnel and veterans. The group will donate to QOV Australia our usual speakers fee, plus all the door takings for the night.

After Helen’s presentation and a short coffee break, the April General Meeting will be held.
